A COMPLETE LIST

OF THE

NAMES OF THE AUTHOBS

WHOSE WORKS ARE PRINTED IN THE GREEK SERIES OF

MIGNE'S PATROLOGIA.

COMPILED BY

J. B. PEAESON, D.D.

FELLOW OF EMMANTEL COLLEGE, CASIBBIDGE.

CAMBRIDGE
1882

I believe that I am furnishing appreciable aid to students of
literature or history by printing a list of the names of the authors
whose works are to be found in Migne's Second Series of Greek
Ecclesiastical writers. It has. not been my intention to imitate
the elaborate and perfect Indices which accompany the Latin
Series : such a task would be best undertaken by someone acting
in alliance with or under the supervision of the Publishers of
the complete issue. My own comparatively insignificant under-
taking, while it meets an obvious want, cannot be said to
entrench upon any general scheme of a larger and more com-
plete character. I can only hope that the sight of the series
of volumes, the contents of which I am endeavouring to render
slightly more accessible to students, may excite the ambition
of some historical genius to do justice to the ecclesiastical annals
of the empire whose secular fortunes have been perfectly described
by Gibbon. It will be understood that I pass no critical opinion
on the genuineness of many works the names of the supposed
authors of which I am bound to record : nor am I led by any
theological velleities, or a desire to subserve any but strictly
literary and historical enquiries.
